Music Monday: Main Theme from The Patriot
By John Williams
The Patriot is one of my all-time favorite movies. Aside from the obvious patriotic and historical element is the incredible family storyline about a father and son with vastly different reasons for fighting for Independence and how the choices in the past influence the consequences in the present. It’s the type of storyline I’m jealous I didn’t write first.
And then, the music! I’m particularly partial to the violin solo!
One of my current reads is an audiobook on the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion. Marion is the real-life Revolutionary War hero The Patriot character, Benjamin Martin, is based off of. Apparently, when this movie came out, England realized how bad they looked and attempted a smear campaign on Francis Marion’s legacy. I don’t think anyone cares what England thinks.
Enjoy this favorite soundtrack piece! And, if bored, I’d recommend watching the movie or looking up some of the Revolutionary War history in the Carolinas. 2025 is the 250th anniversary of the start of the war!
