By Robert Dugoni (Keera Duggan Series Book 2)

Jenna Berstein had it all: the looks, the brains, the money, and a revolutionary start-up company that will change the face of modern medicine. But behind her magazine cover life is a lurking sociopathic personality. When the house of cards inevitably collapses, Jenna finds herself on trial for the murder of her business partner and lover, Sirus Kohl. Her defense attorney? Keera Duggan, a former classmate who knows first hand the diabolical manipulation that Jenna is capable of. Jenna claims she didn’t kill Sirus Kohl. But as the case progresses, more and more dirty secrets come to light. Soon, Keera isn’t just navigating past childhood trauma with Jenna, she’s also tangled in a web of lies, blackmail, and corporate secrets. All the evidence points to Jenna’s guilt, but if Keera does her job right, Jenna will go free. How can justice win in this case?

Pros: Another excellent legal thriller with hints of Blue Bloods! The story has plenty of twists and turns as well as deep characters. One of the things I love about Robert Dugoni’s books is how believable they are. The excellent setting paired with realistic and timely plots set his books apart from the average mystery thriller cliches. Yes, the story is a fun ride, but there’s depth. It’s easy to become invested in his characters and Keera Duggan is one I hope he keeps writing about for many more books to come!

Cons: This is a general market book, so it’s not clean Christian fiction. However, it’s not in-your-face explicit and any content is crucial to the storyline.

As far as pacing goes, the majority of the book was the lead-up to the courtroom scenes. Yes, the book was tense, but not as much as some legal thrillers. It was almost relaxing at times – which isn’t necessarily a con. It wasn’t until things finally switched to the courtroom, that I couldn’t put the book down.

And I found 1 typo!

Bottom Line: An almost psychological legal thriller that pits integrity and justice against each other.
