By David and Barbara Leeman
When I saw that David and Barbara Leeman were releasing another hymn devotional, I immediately pre-ordered it. Wow! It was so worth it!
Hymns about heaven sound great, but how often do we sing them? How many can you list off the top of your head? While churches in the 1800s to early 1900s had a plethora of heaven hymns to choose from, the church in America today has shifted its focus. Outside of a funeral, it seems we don’t feel like singing songs about how temporary life is compared to how wonderful our eternal home with the Lord will be. And that’s a problem. Not enough heaven focus can lead to too much earth focus.
Hosannas Forever contains 52 hymns and spirituals. While it’s designed to feature one song per week, I read one every night. One page contains the history of the song, along with a short, thought-provoking devotional. The second page contains the music, including chord symbols in case you want to play along. (The website also offers mp3 recordings) Songs include Day by Day, Poor Wayfarin’ Stranger, Do Lord, and more, including newer heaven hymns by the Gettys.
I absolutely loved this book and learned so much. If you’re looking for spiritual enrichment and more uplifting music to enjoy, I cannot recommend this book enough.
