By Jaime Jo Wright
Aaliyah Terrence is a Montana Park Ranger. With her black lab, Peaches, she patrols the wilderness, keeping campers safe and reveling in the beauty of the mountains. But her haven is shattered when she stumbles across a serial killer’s remote burial ground – and he stumbles across her.
Wade Marlowe is a cold case detective with a new lead. DNA evidence has identified the first victim of the Arrowhead Killer, and has determined that the victim had a daughter who is alive and well: Aaliyah Terrence. While Aaliyah is less than grateful to find out about her parentage, Wade can’t back down now. The Arrowhead Killer has returned and he’s looking to clean up loose ends. Can Wade and Aaliyah put an end to his killing spree, or will Aaliyah be his next victim?
Pros: Setting is as much a part of Jaime Jo Wright’s stories as her characters and I enjoyed this trip to the Montana wilderness. Deep characters, plenty of twists and turns, and enough suspense to keep me up late reading by flashlight. While the story is a departure from her usual Gothic flare, the author still keeps the Christian message woven throughout. I also appreciated the fact that the serial killer story line didn’t get too dark.
Cons: This book is a Love Inspired Suspense story so it is much shorter than the author’s other books. And because it is LIS, it has to fit a certain mold. As such, it felt more rushed and crammed. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t like the masterpieces I was used to.
Bottom Line: A brief jaunt into the Montana Wilderness to track down a cold case serial killer.
