Maggie is a timecrosser. She lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. When she goes to sleep in one life, she wakes up in another. But when she turns 21 on January 1st, she will have to decide which life to choose. Her other lives will die. And she has 9 months left before she has to make that decision.
1861 Maggie lives with her widowed father in Washington D.C. Her father is a senator and close friend with Abraham Lincoln. As the tensions rise to the inevitable conflict between the north and south, Maggie tries to help alleviate the suffering with her passion for medicine. But a proper young woman shouldn’t risk her reputation caring for soldiers and Maggie finds herself at odds with her father. Should she defy her father and risk changing history by using her advanced medical knowledge? Or should she bide her time, playing hostess at political functions while trying to ferret out a spy?
1941 Maggie is close with her family. Her time-crossing parents understand and counsel her as her 21st birthday draws near and Maggie does her best to support her grieving older sister. Working as naval nurses in Washington D.C. the sisters work together by day and attend glittering parties at night. The only thing marring Maggie’s life is the impending decision and the gruff surgeon she works with. But when the sisters are offered the opportunity to join a medical transport to Pearl Harbor, Maggie is torn yet again. Should she stay behind to enjoy the possible last few months with her family or should she travel with her sister and use her skills for the inevitable tragedy of December 7th?
2001 Maggie is one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in the medical field. Living in Washington D.C., Maggie crams in as much studying as she possibly can, knowing she will probably leave this safe and secure world when she turns 21 and then use those medical skills in a different life. Falling in love with a high-profile politician was never part of her plan. But what if 2001 is the best place for her? What if she and Seth can become a power couple to make a difference? What if she is meant to save lives in 2001?
Cons: Book 1 in the Timeless Series was emotionally traumatic. I thought enough time had passed before reading book 2. I thought I could brace myself and handle it. I thought I would be ok.
Nope.
Pros: There are so many good things going for this series. The historical research is flawless as far as I can tell. The faith element is perfect. The heroine is deeply layered and believable. The suspense was so unbearable I would sometimes close my eyes because I couldn’t look. The mid-point twist shook me. The romance(s) were gorgeously written.
As a reader who snubs the speculative genre because it is unrealistic, I can say that I’ve pretty much bought the fictitious timecrossing bit hook, line, and sinker.
As a writer, I have major respect for the author. I can’t imagine how much work it took to write this book/series.
When I recover from this book, I am definitely continuing with this series!
Bottom Line: The Timeless Series is one of the hottest things in Christian Historical Fiction right now and I don’t foresee that star fading any time soon!
