By Emily P. Freeman
Keep climbing the ladder, dream big, see your name in lights… Adages the world tells us.
Maybe we know it’s not true, but we sanctify our goal-oriented living by pursuing stages in the name of Jesus, pushing ourselves to be workaholics for the “Gospel”, and trying to maximize our influence for the Lord.
But is that really what God calls us to do?
In Simply Tuesday, Christian author Emily Freeman examines her own life and mistakes and encourages others to pursue contentment instead of competition, to rest in the Lord instead of hurrying to the next task, to embrace smallness, and more.
Pros: There were times when I felt I had a pretty good handle on the problems she was presenting, and then bam, I was walloped with a truth I needed to face. Overall, an easy but thought-provoking read with plenty of built-in sections so I could use it as a morning devotional.
Cons: There were times I felt the author could be more concise and other times where I felt she could have dug deeper and delivered a harder punch. But to each his own, I prefer a grittier style of writing.
The Bottom Line: Is your world spinning so fast you can’t keep up? Maybe it’s time to take your Bible and this book, find a bench, and read.
