By Granger Smith

Jesus said that whoever comes to Him will receive living water – the Holy Spirit. But has your living water been poisoned? In this book, Granger Smith pulls no punches. He directly addresses eleven toxins that have crept into our modern “Christian” culture and are undermining our faith. Drawing on his own experience as a Christian-in-name-only, Granger shows how these common false beliefs sabotaged him so, when his world was shaken by loss, he spiraled out of control. Like alkali water in the desert, these poisons like “I’m an American”, “I’ve always been a Christian”, and “I repeated the Sinner’s Prayer” may be comforting and may even appear safe, but will make you sick in the end. The good news? There is hope. But first you have to realize what toxins are tainting your water supply.

Pros: On a completely random side note, this book is extremely well-written. Sometimes, Christian non-fiction can be overly flowery. Other times, it can be dry and boring. This is neither. It is engaging, hard-hitting when it needs to be, has moments of beautiful writing, yet is conversational. I haven’t listened to the audiobook yet, but I guarantee that will also be excellent. Don’t let your fears of poorly-written Christian non-fiction keep you from this book! It is a super easy book to read

Cons: I have zero cons when it comes to this book.

However, I do know this book will tick people off. Granger doesn’t beat around the bush and he acknowledges that this book will challenge long-held beliefs, but you cannot deny his passion for the Lord or the fact that true Christianity is a life-or-death matter. If you are one of the people who is upset by this book, I encourage you to do some studying in your Bible. Fact check him and humbly fact check yourself. At the very least, you’ll spend some extra time in the Word – which isn’t a bad thing.

The Bottom Line: Eleven false beliefs that have infiltrated Christianity. How many of them have been poisoning you?
